Intercom / Communications Systems
  • Register

Intercoms are your first point of communication with a person wishing to gain access through a remote door or portal that is secured.

Based on the information gathered via the intercom unit, a decision will be made whether to trigger the locking hardware and allow them to enter the premises or not.

Intercom
An intercom talkback or door phone is a stand-alone voice communications system for use within a building or small collection of buildings, functioning independently of the public telephone network. Intercoms are generally mounted permanently in buildings.  Intercoms can incorporate connections to public address loudspeaker systems, portable radios, telephones, and to other intercom systems.  Some intercom systems incorporate control of devices such as signal lights and door latches.

Video Intercom
Video Intercom systems offer the enhanced functionality to enable the person being called not only to speak with the individual at the door but also see (via a CCTV camera) them as well.  Additionally (if desired) this video and audio can be recorded. As with the above audio only intercoms, video intercoms traditionally report back to a fixed location.

Cloud Based/3G/4G Connectivity
This new technology not only takes the intercom from a fixed location connection to a full function mobile tool, but also can now provide building management reports and analytics.  Additionally, systems have the capability via a web portal to send building-wide messages, update tenant records, and record photo/time-stamp access events.

Area of Rescue
The "Areas of Refuge" or "Areas of Rescue Assistance" concept was established to provide a location for building occupants who cannot traverse the stairs without assistance the ability to assemble by an exit and await assistance or instructions by the first responders.

These areas are required on each floor above and below the "ground" floor, and must be clearly marked and provide a two way communication system to a central control point.

If the central control point is not staffed 24 hours a day, the communication from each Area of Refuge must be on a timed redirection to a location that is staffed 24 hours a day.

The Area of Refuge communication system shall provide for hands-free, two-way communication, provide an audible and visible signal to indicate communication has occurred, and indicate to the receiver the location sending the signal.

Mass Notification Systems, Emergency Communication, Blue Light Systems
A layered approach to emergency communication remains a popular way to help ensure people remain safe and secure at a wide range of locations.

It is a strong technology to reach a large audience during a potentially dangerous situation increases as additional means of communication are added.  The system is capable of everything from an announcement over public address speakers to a text message or alarm. Since individuals may respond in different ways to different types of notifications, it’s important to push out a variety of alerts and warnings to prompt as many people as possible to react appropriately.

Using multiple channels and sources to combat noise and escalate a sense of urgency is the most effective way to increase awareness.
